Body Mind Healing: What is a Superfood?

Of the many sources for body mind healing, food is certainly one of the most important. It is no mystery that as human beings, we are organic. The living organism that is our home, Earth, is also organic in it’s very nature. The Earth provides for us the nutrients we need to thrive. Some of these nutritious elements are foods widely known as “superfoods”.

Superfoods have been given that name because of the many and diverse nutritional value they behold. Along with other important factors in their healing properties, these foods are packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants are powerful nutrients known and proven to prevent, lower, and regulate things like obesity and diabetes, among other degenerative sicknesses and disease. Slowing the aging process is a huge factor as well. This is because the antioxidants remove the free radicals which damage the immune system, leaving it open to all sorts of illnesses.

On Dr. Perricone’s list of superfoods, found on Oprah’s website and magazine, we learn of the top 10 best of these and their body, mind healing benefits. Of these, she lists açaí, the allium family-(onions, garlic), barley beans and lentils, buckwheat, green foods, hot peppers, nuts and seeds, sprouts, yogurt and kefir. The health advantages of these foods range from protection against heart disease and cancer, lowering blood pressure, removing harmful toxins, and raising metabolism.

There are superfoods not shown on Perricone’s list and these include salmon, eggs, and sweet potatoes. All of which promotes the body mind healing advantages explained above.
