Body Mind Healing : What is it?

Posted by admin on Dec 5, 2008

More and more these days, Westerners are becoming more aware of and embracing what is referred to as Body Mind Healing. The defintion of “body mind healing” according to the medical dictionary on freedictionary.com, is explained as this: Of, involving, or resulting from the connection between one’s physical health and the state of one’s mind or spirit

This concept of healing is an approach to medicine that doesn’t just look at the human physical body, but considers the whole person, in a holisitc sense. This means physically, mentally, emotionally, and of course spiritually. Spirituality has often been left out in traditional medicine, until recently.

Careful consideration on what science has revealed and what Eastern thought has practiced and known for thousands of years, has opened the eyes of us here in the West. It’s now been proven that how the individual thinks and feels constitutes whether or not illness gets created. The body truly manifests what is found within ourselves.

When a person decides to take the approach of the “body mind healing” process, many options are available. There are hundreds of alternative and complementary methods that can be used to attain and restore health and vitality. Many of these creative and innovative routes to healing, are often used for preventative care. This is the most important when considering a fully integrative and holistic life style.

Over and over again we see disease and illness that could have been prevented simply by the person making better choices in diet, exercise, relationships, etc. However, one of the most difficult and often times overlooked matters to health is the way a person percives themselves and the world around them.

Every thought and emotion lays the groundwork for what is to come. A person with a mind of constant negativity and abusive, sabotaging thoughts, breeds illness in the system faster than one realizes. Years of exposure to this type of self-abuse, finally manifests itself in physical form, causing a host of things, depending on the individual and the particular circumstances.

An Ezine article titled, “Body Mind Healing-Your Focus Becomes Your Reality”, touches on the subject quite nicely. It explains briefly and simply that your physical, bodily, and spiritual experiences are a direct result of what is thought and believed.

Although still a very new concept in the world of traditional medicine, “body mind healing” techniques are fastly becoming the new face of medicine, and for good reason. I’m very excited to see how this “body mind healing” philosophy will change the way our society sees the human being, and it’s relationship to the world and self.

Water and its Vast Intelligence for our Body Mind Healing

Posted by admin on Apr 24, 2009

Did you know that water is an intelligent being, making itself the most vital to your path of body mind healing? Have you realized that while your body is mostly made up of this grand substance, you and the world you live in, decides how, in both the micro and macro, the quality of life exists.

We all remember childhood schooling and learning of the world. Do you recall learning of snow and how each flake that fell to the ground had its very own make-up and design? Each of these are unique. This is exactly the same with water molecules.

One of the most amazing discoveries of our time is the fact that water is itself an organism and can reflect back what is given to it, either quite literally through the form of pollution or good care in a physical sense, or through a sense of emotion, which is of a spiritual kind.

Water will transform itself into a piece of art simply because of what it was exposed to, if said exposure was positive and delightful as well. On the other hand, it can also reveal itself to be an enemy if exposed to negativity and all forms of muck and “darkness”.

These conditions in the water are created by:

  • Intention, through thought and prayer
  • Vibration, as in music
  • Color and Light
  • Language. Literal words being spoken and attached to the molecule itself

This information should be life transforming to the person reading, considering the fact that the Earth itself is a planet of water, while we as being are also made up of mostly water. Not one thing in existence can live without this substance.

Just think about this for a moment. Everything you think and feel effects you on levels you never dreamed of. If you are prone to dis-eased like thinking and feeling, your body itself will form and become like the thoughts you give it with the help of the water that is slowly changing itself to match the conditions of your mind and heart.

If there is ever a time to fully investigate this science, it is now. When you look at the world around you and see that a major part of it’s love and magic had cooled off, you ought to dive in even stronger.

The internet had plenty of resources to study this subject even further and one man that should be noted is Dr. Masaru Emoto. His research and findings are totally astonishing. You will never look at your life or this world the same after taking a look at his work.

It’s time that we, as human beings get back to a place where we honor a part of ourselves that is not only drives us at the core, but it specific to all things. It seems we have traded all of that for things that are not only fallible, but useless.

To be on a path to find true body mind healing, look to the very substance that gives life itself. Water has a story to tell and it is reflecting our state of mind.

God’s Creatures for Body Mind Healing: The Forever Loveable Household Pet

Posted by admin on Apr 23, 2009

A fantastic way for treating ourselves to body mind healing is by forming relationships with the loving animals we call our pets. Let’s be totally honest with ourselves and call these little rascals, members of the family tribe. The liveliness, humor and delight an animal introduces to one and their family can bring tears of joy to your eye. The family pet certainly adds the needed amusement we all need during these terrible times of stress in our unique age of the world.

It’s been known that an animal as a companion truly provided a sense of loyalty and unconditional love for its owner(s).  There’s no need to get into details as to how this is beneficial. However, we have come to understand a lot more concerning animals and their relation to our well-being in modern times. (For further information visit this website on healthy pets)

It’s been estimated that nearly 60% of American households now have at least one pet and most of these pets are now the cat since it apparently surpassed the dog as pet of choice. Most likely, this is due to the fact that cats are much lower maintenance than dogs. I can say this with total confidence, considering I have 3 cats and only have a dog in my home because of an in-law.

Studies have shown that having a cat or dog in the home not only reduces stress and anxiety, but it actually lessens depression and lowers cholesterol levels! Much of this is activated in the system simply by showing your creature some love by touching its fur through petting. When you ponder this closely, you have got to find this totally amazing.

I currently work for an assisted living facility and one of our activities provided to the residents are what we call “dog visits”. These visits aren’t simply just for the entertainment. These get-togethers aid in the body mind healing of the elders.

For instance, UCLA’s People-Animal Connection has volunteers take dogs to visit 400 hospital patients every month. K.C. Cole, the director, has reviewed studies of the human-animal bond and is convinced of the social, mental, and physical impact.

Of these she says, “Among other things, animals contribute to raising self-esteem, significantly lowering anxiety levels, improving attitude toward others and opening lines of communication,” she says. “With geriatric patients we see a bridge of communication develop with staff and family when a dog visits.”

Even more astounding, according to information found on peteducation.com, animals, such as dogs can detect oncoming dangers with our health, body and mind. A trained dog can warn their owner of an impending “freezing” episode due to Parkinson’s, preventing serious injury to the person and can also smell skin cancer on a human being! A particular dog by the name of George can do this with 100% accuracy.

It’s obvious that we live in a very mysterious world which is often more magical than we might believe. However, when one considers the animal life, and the place these little guys have in our world, you can’t deny that something higher is in order, allowing us the benefit of these beautiful friends. Developing a relationship with your special animal certainly brings you closer to a body mind healing that is real.

Energy Medicine for Body Mind Healing: For Real or Bogus, Hocus Pocus?

Posted by admin on Apr 15, 2009

A new age of medicine has arrived and it’s looking at the individual in a holistic sense to achieve what’s known as body-mind healing. When considering the techniques, practices and devices used for achieving this state of  well-being, we are now witnessing the world open itself to fields of medicine that have been around for many thousands of years. Many of these practices have been overlooked and disregarded by the medical community and its patients for numerable reasons, considering it to have no scientific merit. This applies particularly in the West where it had been thought of as voodoo or black magic, up until now.

For so long, the human being as well as its environment, (namely the Universe itself) had been thought of as mechanistic. Science had told us that we were robotic, something like a machine. This perception of course, is false and inaccurate. The truth is, we and the universe alike are living entities. The planet Earth that we call home is itself an organism, and like ourselves, it survives and thrives by a universal life force that permeates all living things. What exactly is this force?

Known by traditions in India as Prana , China as Chi or Qi, Japan as Ki, Loong and Bla in Tibet, Mana in Polynesia and Therapeutic Touch in the U.S., is one of the most profound and fundamental therapies in the field of body-mind medicine and holistic health. Welcome to the world of Energy Medicine.

Having been called “the future of medicine” by Dr. Mehmet Oz, Americans have been taking complimentary forms of healing seriously, though at a slower rate than those around the world. However, once introduced, growing enthusiasm within the U.S. has allowed them to test an array of alternative healing modalities, which are becoming recognized as important because they are not only affordable, making it cost-effective, but the fact is that they work.

Energy medicine is both an art and science that focuses on the body’s energy systems for healing.  When there is a blockage or interference in the energy field, the body becomes toxic and is then susceptible to illness and disease. The aim in energy healing is to re-ignite and balance the energy flows by a cleansing process that removes the toxicity that’s attracted by negative thought processes. These energetic interventions allow the body to return to its natural healthy state by restoring the energy flow.

The various types of treatments used in energy healing include massage, reiki, light and color therapies, and acupuncture, which is one of the oldest and most commonly used holistic medical procedures in the world. In the West, a common form of energy healing is Therapeutic Touch, which has been taught to thousands of nurses across the United States.

Most or all of these techniques will assist the individual to reduce stress, recover from trauma, cope with grief and loss, manage pain, change limiting beliefs, deal with illness and its health challenges, and basically give the person a complete sense of well-being.

However, many are critical of this form of medicine for hosts of reasons, ignoring the testimonies of healers and their patients alike. Much of it can be said because of the very nature that energy healing derives from. It has found itself to be quite a contraversial subject among medical communities. This is not so surprising when considering that this practice has only been seriously looked at in recent modern times. We have so much more to discover and explore about our bodies in relation to energy healing. I’m certain that we will come across evidence more compelling when compared with what we know and are capable of now. (For a skeptics point of view, read an article written in the online Skeptics Dictionaryby clicking here).

Individuals seeking to improve life should definantly consider energy medicine as an option. For we know as a fact, that, body mind healing is ideal for balancing the areas of life that are emotional, mental, physical, and last but never least, spiritual.

Body Mind Healing: An Introduction to Color Therapy

Posted by admin on Mar 24, 2009

There are numerous therapies found under the body mind healing scope.  What’s truly exciting in the world of medicine today is the fact that people of all types, (especially where it’s needed in the West), are increasingly becoming more educated and aware of these healing traditions. No longer do we see the “Healing Arts” as something left to hippies and eccentric folk. This method used for treatment and prevention of illness and disease is a respected, viable science, and quickly becoming more wide spread in its use with patients and practiced more by traditional doctors.

One of the most underestimated forms of treatment in the Holistic field is Color Therapy. Also called Chromo therapy, it uses the seven colors of the rainbow to promote balance and healing in the body and mind. This is based on the fact that each color is infused with healing energies.

Classified as a vibration healing modality, color is simply a form of light, having varying wavelengths / frequencies. Because of its electromagnetic energy, color resonates with the energies from the various parts of the body and can be used on the body in a number of different ways. The color is absorbed not only through the eyes but also the skin.

Some of the methods being used by a color therapist would be the placement of colored silks and the directing of colored light on the body, solarized water, (the most important color and light source to man is the sun itself, for without it, there would be no life, and not having enough, a person can develop severe depression as in S.A.D), meditation on color and color breathing. While practicing these methods, various tools such as gemstones, candles and lamps, lasers, crystals and glass, colored eye lenses and colored bath treatments are implemented. Treatments do not stop there either.

For instance, a Color Therapist can tell a lot about a person just by knowing what their color preferences are. Choices in color can help the therapist predict and prevent imbalances that may cause a host of potential problems, especially where personality issues need addressing.

Gaining a better understanding of one’s self by using color is not only fascinating, but more importantly, it’s an effective tool for a person to put some balance into place for their lives, from both within and without. It’s important to note that aside physical health, your environment plays a huge role when considering how it affects mood on emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.

Many will prefer certain colors over others due to past negative emotional experiences, making one prone to avoid said color(s). The same is true for those geared towards surrounding themselves with colors they find to be favorites. They become drawn to these colors due to having the memory of positive feelings and exposure involving the color(s).

In one psychological study, Andrew Elliot, professor of psychology, and Daniela Niesta, post-doctoral researcher, find that the color red made their male test subjects feel more amorous toward women, and interestingly, the men were completely unaware of the roll that the red color played in their attraction. Professor Elliot comments on this saying, “It’s only recently that psychologists and researchers in other disciplines have been looking closely and systematically at the relationship between color and behavior. Much is known about color physics and color physiology, but very little about color psychology. It’s fascinating to find that something as ubiquitous as color can be having an effect on our behavior without our awareness.” Though heavy reading, you can get an in depth look at these findings in this journal of psychology and sociology. Click here for a closer look at the subject.

Even after studies done like the one Professor Elliot had put together, people still either can’t understand nor grasp just how much color really does affect one’s body and mind. The facts are that is does, whether an individual is aware of it or not.

An article I found on the website, infoplease.com, briefly describes the affects that each color can have. This information is based on what is called “color psychology”. Few people are acquainted with it, and even fewer doctors’ practice, let alone understand it. Take the time and read “Color Psychology” by David Johnson.

To end this brief introduction, one should never leave out nor underestimate the capacity for the human being to renew and heal themselves on all levels. Our bodies and minds were designed in this fashion. We must always consider wholeness when attempting techniques and treatments that are set out to accomplish full body, mind healing.

Body Mind Healing: Why Aromatherapy for Therapeutic Use?

Posted by admin on Mar 17, 2009

Turning to Aromatherapy for the use in attaining full body mind healing is an option many persons overlook. Concerning the role it plays, or of its benefits, many simply do not understand aromatherapy’s scope of importance and the place it holds for aiding in the healing process.

What is Aromatherapy exactly? Is it safe?

Coined in the 1920’s by French perfumer Rene Gattfosse, Aromatherapy is a therapeutic practice that engages in the use of volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being.

Aromatherapy is considered to be a form of alternative, complementary, and or holistic medicine, using flowers, plants, and their essences for healing, relaxation and energizing. The extracted essential oils coming from these plants are used in a variety of things such as perfume and bath oils. These oils can be inhaled or used as a topical solution, such as the case with massage. However, the choice of the method used is often depending on the intended goal.

For the most part, most topical and inhaled essential oils are considered safe. However, Aromatherapy can induce side effects, such as rash, headache, liver and nerve damage, as well as harm to the fetus, (which is why unless you are specifically instructed by a physician, this therapy should be avoided during pregnancy).  Never take essential oils by mouth, because again, you must have a trained professional advise you to do so first. Some oils are toxic, and taking them by mouth could be fatal. Never self prescribe and diagnose. It’s important that we all be responsible where our health is concerned.

How long has Aromatherapy been around?

Reputed to be at least 6000 years old, Aromatherapy was used by most ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, and India, all of whom still practice this form of healing. Some will say that Aromatherapy actually dates back as far as 18,000 B.C.E.

According to the website “How Stuff Works”, the history of aromatherapy is believed to have begun with the burning of fragrant woods, leaves, needles, and tree gums in ancient times. This practice probably arose from the discovery that some fire woods, such as cypress and cedar, filled the air with scent when they burned. In fact, our modern word perfume is derived from the Latin per fumum, which means “through smoke.”

Which essence is the most popular and commonly used?

One of the most widely used and versatile therapeutic essences is Lavender. Lavender’s essential oil is fantastic when used for soothing dry and inflamed skin. In fact the list is amazingly long for its skin uses. To name just a few, Lavender can be applied for abscesses, acne, athlete’s foot, boils, bruises, burns, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, insect bites and stings, insect repellant, lice, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, sores, spots, sunburn and wounds! This goes for all skin types.

I could go on and on with a massive supply of information on the world of Aromatherapy and its major influence on a person’s road to body mind healing. Try doing a search on the internet for a wide array of resources to further your education and understanding of this powerful therapeutic practice. Aromatherapy’s unique form of healing just might be the very additive you need to push your body into a state of total wellness.

Your welcome to enjoy a demonstration and some valuable information concerning Lavendar and some of its uses by YouTube’s “AromaExpert”.

Body Mind Healing: Why Approach Mental Health Holistically?

Posted by admin on Mar 13, 2009

Using the body mind healing approach is really the only way to deal with mental health. The ultimate goal of holistic psychology and body mind healing therapies, is to heal all body organs associated with the production of healthy brain chemicals to aid in the prevention of mood swings and some of the more serious mental ailments.

In this article, we’re going to focus on why millions of people have become intoxicated with pills prescribed for “mental illness”(I prefer to call it “emotional turmoil”or something like a “body-mind burnout”), instead of going a route much more effective and natural.

As defined by the Surgeon General’s Report on Mental Health, “mental health refers to the successful performance of mental function, resulting in productive activities, fulfilling relationships with other people, and the ability to adapt to change and cope with adversity.”

Our planet is suffering with problems so numerous, that no other time in history can even come close to the issues we are facing. It’s no wonder, that people on the planet find themselves facing “mental issues”.

Let’s look at just the United States. More people are being medicated with legal drugs than ever before.  The industry of pharmaceuticals is a multi-million dollar industry. In one way or another, the people of this country will be or are drugged on something for something.

Most often, mental health and illness get treated simply by giving the individual chemicals in pill form. This is ok, so long the person understands that they must follow and integrate other forms of treatment to help themselves attain full recovery..if possible. A pill won’t do it alone. The patient must also understand both the benefits and the affects of taking such medications.

Chemical drugs are not to be taken lightly and are not for everyone. Serious precations must be taken, and the person should do all they can in order to educate themselves in all possible ways, making for certain they understand the condition and diagnosis, the available meds, and cross-examining the doctor. The doctor, healer, physician or whatevder you wanrt to call them should be well informed and able to answer all questions a person may have. Health is serious business and must be treated as such. We as people are ultimately responsible for our own well being. Dependency on the doctor has been quite strong, for quite some time.

The last 50 years have shown there to be vast advances in medicine, but no significant breakthroughs concerning care and understanding in regards to mental health. Studies show that current mental health patients are still receiving substandard care. Even after all that has been advanced in this world of technological savvy. Many people are still prescribed harsh chemicals and drugs to treat their mental state. Often times a person is on more than one drug and endures the trying of all kinds of meds before settling on the correct one.

Too many instances are we finding the doctor using the single-minded stand, using the”take a pill and go home” situation, suppressing the symptoms instead of looking at the whole person and trying to find the core issue. This is especially true when you consider America’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology research companies. They invested a record $58.8 billion last year in the research and development of new life-changing medicines and vaccines – an increase of nearly $3 billion. This is according to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

The method of applying body mind healing, is to assist the body to return to normal functioning as naturally as possible. It seeks to use several avenues to reach, prevent and treat a body not at ease, rather than the single-minded approach of typical clinical therapies, that have always been used. This is clearly coming from a lack of understanding and ignorance of disease and illness. .

Over time, if holistic techniques for treatment and healing are successful, the need for meds become reduced and eventually with some people, they may overcome any need for medication. For this very reason, body mind healing therapies are the most practical and the most successful forms of treatment.

Some forms for treatment and therapy, when taken holistically, can include some of the following:

·                     Music and Vibration Therapy

·                     Art Therapy (this therapy is very diverse and the individual can partake in anything creative that he/she finds suitable to personality and preferance.)

·                     Diet and Nutritional Therapies

·                     Counseling, such as Transformational Psychology or seeing a Motivational Life-Coach

·                     Journal Writing and Meditation (Using relfection as a means of understanding self)

·                     Practicing Spirituality for self-healing through mental, emotional, physical and of course spiritual means. (find a path, group, program, or congregation, etc.. to integrate meaning and purpose into one’s life)

·                     Visiting a Holistic practioner (such as Naturopathic, Homeopathic, and or Auyervedic Healer)

·                     Massage, Accupuncture, Color Therapy, etc.

The list goes on and includes many variations of of the above body mind healing techniques, as well as some of the most unique and creative therapeutic practices not mentioned, that can be customized and geared to the individual. It’s really up to the person and his or her needs on a personal level.

For further investigation on this very important topic, view this video titled Mental Health Liberation and the Anti-Psychiatry Movement”.

This subject is painfully close to me because of the fact that five of my immediate family members suffer from severe mental illnesses and close friends of mine as well. It’s scary that many of them are using psychiatric drugs which more often than not, cause symptoms to worsen.

Body Mind Healing: What is Sound and Vibrational Healing?

Posted by admin on Mar 13, 2009

To help us attain and mantain body mind healing, we must consider sound and vibration. We are vibrational beings at our very core. For many thousands of years, in every culture around the world, sound has had tremendous significance when used to transform conciousness.

As explained by the Sound Healing Network, sound healing can be defined as the intentional use of sound or music to bring about enhanced states of wellness in our physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual being.

As a vibrational therapy, sound healing can be considered energy medicine. After World War II, health benefits to the patients in Veterans hospitals lead this type of therapy to be taken seriously, and studied. Soon it became formalized as a complimentary form of medicinal practice. This form of body mind healing is diverse, making it’s acceptance and  the amount of research done varied. Musical therapy has basically been accepted among traditional medical practioners.

Very interestingly, sound healing is one of the new “crazes” in the alterantive and complimentary medicinal world. Sound healing therapies are being incorporated more and more, making this an exciting time in medicine. Practitioners are utilizing traditional massage, reiki, acupuncture, shamanism, nutrition, psychology, and standard medical practices.

Sound therapy is used for a variety of physiological and psychological reasons. Physical conditions that are treated include the pain during labor, muscle and joint pains, like arthritis, back pain, sports injuries, soft tissue damage, and cancers. Mental issues like anxiety and depression cannot be dismissed. Most or all of these physical conditions can and usually do create psychological problems that can further perpetuate an ailment.

Because the therapies of treatment for sound and vibration cover a wide spectrum, the choices one has for treatment and costs are many. Some therapies can even be done at home, such as using audiotapes or compact discs that use special frequencies or music that are designed for conditions ranging from very serious illnesses like HIV and AIDS to problems with weight. Many of these audio recordings target both the emotional and physical aspects of these conditions.

The costs for some of these will vary. But many can be found for just a few dollars. I personally own a few which are great and I love listening to them before I sleep each night. I grabbed them from a place near the Pike Place Market called “Eco Elements”. However, they can be puchased online and this way, you can do a little research and have some understanding as to what they do and the body mind healing benefits to them. Visit Brain Sync for further information on this technology and to browse the various titles that are available.

As late as 2002, healing therapies like sound and music were not being covered by most health plans. However, there are some sound therapies being used and integrated into various treatments for a host of conditions. One article reported a heart surgeon saying, “Any surgeon not using music (therapy) in the operating room, is simply being negligent,”. His feeling and experience of this has been because of the therapy being extemely effective in his patients recovery.

It’s safe to say that sound and music therapies for body mind healing is here to stay. No longer a distant, ancient form of medicine, thought to be merely superstition, this healing practice has proven itself to be a vital force in helping a person’s capacity for total body mind healing.

For further information on body mind healing using sound, take a look at this informative video entitled “The Healing Power of Sound” that will introduce you to this very old, but newly discovered form of healing.

Body Mind Healing: What is a Superfood?

Posted by admin on Jan 5, 2009

Of the many sources for body mind healing, food is certainly one of the most important. It is no mystery that as human beings, we are organic. The living organism that is our home, Earth, is also organic in it’s very nature. The Earth provides for us the nutrients we need to thrive. Some of these nutritious elements are foods widely known as “superfoods”.

Superfoods have been given that name because of the many and diverse nutritional value they behold. Along with other important factors in their healing properties, these foods are packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants are powerful nutrients known and proven to prevent, lower, and regulate things like obesity and diabetes, among other degenerative sicknesses and disease. Slowing the aging process is a huge factor as well. This is because the antioxidants remove the free radicals which damage the immune system, leaving it open to all sorts of illnesses.

On Dr. Perricone’s list of superfoods, found on Oprah’s website and magazine, we learn of the top 10 best of these and their body, mind healing benefits. Of these, she lists açaí, the allium family-(onions, garlic), barley beans and lentils, buckwheat, green foods, hot peppers, nuts and seeds, sprouts, yogurt and kefir. The health advantages of these foods range from protection against heart disease and cancer, lowering blood pressure, removing harmful toxins, and raising metabolism.

There are superfoods not shown on Perricone’s list and these include salmon, eggs, and sweet potatoes. All of which promotes the body mind healing advantages explained above.

The “Today Show” aired a segment on “5 Superfoods that Can Change Your Life”. Watch the video for a brief introduction to these healing foods.
